New home, familiar buddy

Storm arrived at our Phelps, NY farm about 4pm Thursday. His younger 1/2 brother Knight, having boarded at a nearby facility until we could get some more of the herd back east, arrived about 10 minutes later, just as Storm was being unloaded.

Terri tells me it was a little bit of a rough first night for Storm - lots of pacing & 'searching' - while Knight was right next to him in a separate paddock, Storm has been used to 4 or 5 boys running around (who are doing just that as I write - heavy dose of mosquito invasion tonight), so I'm sure there was a bit of 'where the heck AM I?' going on for him. Within 24 hours Terri felt is was safe enough to put them together and pretty much immediately Storm settled down. Amazing what a stablemate & grass can do for a horse.

So both boys by our mare Sommer, Storm in '03 and Knight in '04. Bit of a size discrepancy, eh? Hard to say why because Sammie, our 2yr old, is a full sister to Knight and she's almost his size, now. Maybe . . . he's the mailman's kid.

To give you an idea just how big Storm is . . Knight was recently stuck at 15'2 or 3 can't remember which, but regardless . . . kinda looks like a pony here, eh? What Knight does have going on are 3 very, very good gaits and probably a pretty good jumper, too; although that has not been worked on very much. He's also had more time under saddle than any other of the younger boys, including his brother Storm.

Let's see . . . New York + Terri = 2 horses, Colorado + Jon = 18 horses . . . this new math always stumps me! :] Actually, we'll get'em all east coast bound hopefully before the end of year.

They sure do look like each other, despite the size difference! They both look athletic - it'll be interesting to see how they come along.

The looks so content together, like two peas in a pod...pasture???

I don't know how your young horses grow, but all the ones I've had seem to go in fits and starts.

Doing a quick visual "string test" it looks as if Storm is going to catch up to Knight before he's done.

Glad the trip was a good one for the boy. And yes, the difference in numbers of horses in each of your cares is a bit daunting. Does that mean you are better at it all? *lol*

Hey Jon...Great photo of happy horses. Looks like things are working out. Now, if you and those other 18 could just move to Phelps.
